CAMPAIGNERS from Cymdeithas yr Iaith will hold face to face talks with Carmarthenshire County Council leader Kevin Madge in County Hall next Wednesday.
It follows Census figures showing the Welsh language experienced the most serious decline in Carmarthenshire.
Cymdeithas will present a Language Charter (‘Siarter Sir Gar’) to Cllr Kevin Madge at 11am. Also present will be Deputy Chief Executive Chris Burns and Cllr Mair Stephens, who holds the cabi - net post for the Welsh language.
Sioned Elin, Cymdeithas chair in the area, said: “We are taking the county council at face value when they say that they wish to take action to promote the language and Welsh-speaking communities in view of the disastrous census figures.
“The hundreds who came to Cymdeithas rallies, and the 1,500 who signed the ‘Dwi eisiau byw yn Gymraeg’ (‘We want to live in Welsh’) Covenant, show the strength of local feeling, and we shall be presenting the council with a set of radical but practical proposals in the Language Charter.”
