LOCAL athletes were among the cream of young talent who took part in the Celtic Games in Carmarthen at the weekend.
However, one young man who had only just finished celebrating the most impressive victory of his burgeoning career was notable by his absence.
Ysgol Tre-Gib schoolboy Jon Llewelyn is recovering in Glangwili Hospital after being seriously hurt in a road accident just over a week after winning the British Schools javelin crown in Northern Ireland.
The Llandybie teenager will obviously be out of action for some time and faces a lengthy spell of recovery.
We hope Jon will speedily overcome this setback and be back on top of the winner’s rostrum before too long.
************ FRIDAY morning was a nightmare for many motorists who faced a long and frustrating trip into work after a crash on the A48 near Cwmgwili closed the Pont Abraham roundabout.
Proof that this section of road is becoming increasingly dangerous now seems forthcoming on a weekly basis.
You have to sympathise with locals whose hearts are in their mouths every time they hear the road has claimed more victims.
The Welsh Assembly’s efforts to impose traffic-calming measures will, it seems, not happen overnight so why can’t speed cameras be installed in the meantime? Urgent action is obviously needed – anything to discourage drivers from flooring their accelerators.
