AUSSIE soap star and pop sensation Jason Donovan is set to return to the Cardiff stage when he reprises the role of Tick in the international smash hit musical Priscilla Queen of the Desert.

The former Neighbours start originally played the part when the hit show first opened in the West End.

Jason, who reached the final of last year’s Strictly Come Dancing has had a hugely successful and varied career as both an actor and world-wide recording artist, selling over 13 million albums to date.

As well as his starring role in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, his other West End credits include the title role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and Caractacus Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

His touring credits include Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music, Frank N Furter in The Rocky Horror Show, and the title role in John Doyle’s production of Stephen Sondheim’s Sweeney Todd.

He can currently be seen as The Artilleryman in The War of the Worlds.

Richard Grieve - best known as Jonny Foster in Emmerdale - will play Bernadette while Graham Weaver appears as Felicia.

Priscilla Queen of the Desert – the Musical originally opened in Australia in 2006 where it ran for two years before opening in the West End for a run of a further two years.

The show recently played a hugely successful season on Broadway. Along the way, it has won numerous awards including the prestigious Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Costume Design.

The show visits Wales Millennium Centre next year with a run From January 7 to 18.
