A stunning audio/visual spectacle is promised as India Dance Wales perform Natya Kala: The Art Of Dance for the first time at Theatr Elli, on Friday.
The Art Of Dance is a visually striking performance, which explores the harmonisation between classical Indian dance and western music. It combines the ancient and popular dance style of Bharat Natyam with storytelling, visual arts, plus music specially composed by Peter Stacey and opulent costumes to produce a challenging and contemporary production.
Indian entertainment has been gaining wider appeal in recent years with colourful productions and Bollywood-type films topping ratings, and all over Britain there is a vastly growing interest in Indian dance. Wales' (IDW) only professional company in this field, India Dance Wales, has built up a great reputation since it was founded in 1993, devising innovative and thought-provoking work based on classical Indian dance.
IDW is committed to making visually dynamic classic styles inspiring for the familiar, accessible to the unfamiliar and, while maintaining authenticity, exploring contemporary ideas that cross cultural boundaries and provide an unforgettable experience. Their goal is to educate and involve the general public in greater appreciation and understanding of classical Indian dance both as audience and participants.
Tickets, priced £6.50 and £5.50 concessions, are available from the box office: 0845 226 3508/09
