Twelve years ago, more than five million viewers tuned into Britain’s Got Talent to witness mobile phone salesman Paul Potts shuffle up to the microphone to perform his rendition of Nessun Dorma.
His voice soared and Britain – and much of the world - immediately fell in love with his story and incredible talent.
Soon after, a record-breaking 12 million viewers witnessed Paul being crowned the inaugural winner of Britain’s Got Talent. His audition of ‘Nessun Dorma’ remains one of the most-watched videos in YouTube history, his debut, multi-platinum album One Chance reached Number One in 15 countries and he’s been invited to perform for The Queen at the Royal Variety Performance on two occasions.
But the story doesn’t end there.
Port Talbot based Paul’s best-selling autobiography was transformed into a Hollywood film starring James Corden, and he’s released four studio albums and a Greatest Hits anthology, collectively amassing more than four million sales.
Paul’s fifth studio album ‘On Stage’, released in 2017, to mark ten years since his historic win, is a collection of songs that have either inspired or been performed by Paul in leading roles – from Broadway to the West End.
Paul’s enduring passion for music sees him still sharing his incredible gift with fans and touching people’s lives all around the world. In fact, over the last decade, Paul has received standing ovations at an astonishing 879 performances across 44 countries in 291 towns.
Paul’s continuing success is an inspiration to generations of fans across the globe.
And closer to home, the singer is now celebrating 12 years since he shot to fame with the Paul Potts Homecoming Show at The Princess Royal Theatre, Port Talbot on Friday, September 6 at 7.30pm.
