IT WAS the only National Eisteddfod held during the Second World War – now, almost 70 years after Llandybie's unique claim to Eisteddfod fame, community councillors are seeking recognition for the wartime event.
Community clerk Dilys Griffiths reminded members that next year would mark the 70th anniversary of the 1944 National Eisteddfod in Llandybie which resulted in the festival increasing the number of days of its duration.
She said that the council's development committee felt the occasion should be marked in some way with a link to next year's National Eisteddfod in Llanelli.
The move had been suggested as a possible project for financial assistance from the Mynydd y Betws Windfarm Community Benefit Fund and Ms Griffiths said she would be contacting the National Eisteddfod enquiring what, if any, arrangements they had regarding the marking of the milestone.
"These are early days but once this summer's event is over I expect them to discuss this matter in October," she added.
