The final arrangements have now been put in place for this year’s Gorslas Fair and Carnival.
The event, scheduled for Saturday, September 7, will see a procession of floats pass through the village for the first time in more than 50 years.
“We revived the village fair a few years ago and this year the committee decided to organise a carnival procession of floats as well,” said Welfare Association chairman, Ellis Davies.
Vice-chairman Gavin Griffiths is in charge of the procession and all the floats must be in place at the Gwernllwyn at 12.30pm ready for a 1pm start.
The procession will be led by Ammanford Town Brass Band as it travels along Cross Hands Road towards Gorslas Square where it turns into Church Road before ending in the Gorslas Industrial Estate.
The Fair will take place on the Welfare Park where the marquee stalls will include Guess the cost of the Hamper, Play Your Cards Right, a cake stall, photos with the Six Nations Rugby trophy, school garden produce with Gorslas PTA as well as light refreshments.
Music in the marquee will be provided by bi-lingual group Baldande. The outside attractions include a bouncy castle, rugby and golf competitions as well as a ‘Bucking Bronco’ and ‘Bungee Pull’.
The main attractions on the main field will be a Falconry Display by Pantglas World of Nature, a demonstration of remote controlled cars and weather permitting, a self-defence exhibition.
It promises to be an exciting afternoon for everyone. Anyone who is able to help on the day can contact either Terry Davies on 01269 842784, Ellis Davies on 01269 843535 or Gavin Griffiths on 07971 784003.
