Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards has called for a reduction in the speed limit through a Towy Valley village.

Mr Edwards has urged Welsh road chiefs to consider reducing the 60mph limit through Gwynfe after residents expressed concern at the speed of vehicles passing through the village.

The appeal came after Mr Edwards was alerted to the issue at one of his regular street surgeries where he visits constituents in their homes and communities.

In Capel Gwynfe almost all of the residents he spoke to raised the issue of speeding traffic.

Jonathan Edwards MP said: “Without doubt the speed of traffic through the village is of huge concern to the residents of Gwynfe.

“In fairness road users are more than likely to be travelling within the 60mph national speed limit which is currently in place. But I agree with the local residents that 60mph is not appropriate for vehicles to travel through the community.

“Many country roads have alternative speed limits for areas where there is housing. I have therefore contacted the local authority and have asked for them to look favourably at changing the speed limit through the village.

“My street surgeries are a great way of speaking directly with my constituents in their home patch. Public transport links are poor in many of the areas I represent, so I try to make it as easy as possible for people to raise matters with me.”
