HAFAN Dementia Care - Amman Valley’s leading respite home for those suffering with Dementia - is celebrating the completion of months of building work to expand the centre, with an official opening later this month.

Following grant funding, the centre, on Heol Aman, Glanaman, has now been able to increase the number of residents from seven to eleven and it is hoped the day care, currently based in Ammanford’s Station Road will also be moved to the Glanaman residence.

Hafan Dementia’s Manager Dorothy McDonald is now calling on volunteers to help with the preparations in the run up to the opening day on Monday, September 16.

“We are desperately seeking volunteers to help with cleaning up, putting up curtain poles and to generally get the place ready for the grand opening,” said Dorothy.

Dorothy is also seeking any old memorabilia to contribute to the garden’s new memory lane.

“Hafan Dementia Care has a lovely garden with walkway which we are making into a memory lane for residents, this will house things like old mining memorabilia, so if anyone has anything they would like to donate, it will make a great contribution to the centre,” added Dorothy.

If you can help with the preparations, donations or contribute in any way, please phone 01269 591787.

Hafan Dementia Care will be officially opened by the Older People’s Commissioner for Wales Sarah Rochira on Monday, September 16.
