AN Amman Valley disused tennis and basketball court has been transformed into a multi use games and skateboard park thanks to a community council.
The Cwmllynfell park which also features a cableway zip slide is the result of extensive discussion with local people and was made possible by significant grants from the Welsh Government under the Aggregate Levy Fund for Wales (£87,222) and from WREN who distribute funds donated by FCC Environmental (previously WRG) through the Landfill Communities Fund (£50,000).
Speaking about the improvements a spokesperson said: “Cwmllynfell Community Council is extremely grateful for the generous grants that have been received and the co-operation and support from Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council.
“We are also grateful to Cwmllynfell Hall for their help in running the park since it was completed in May. The new play facilities, constructed by Wicksteed Playscapes, are proving to be very popular with local children and young people alike.
On Thursday, September 12 the First Minister of Wales, the Rt Hon Carwyn Jones AM will officially open the park.
