Preparations for a village fete in Llandybie were interrupted when the brother of one of the organisers attacked her boyfriend, magistrates have been told.
Helen Slater was setting up stalls in the village Memorial Hall at 10.15am on August 25 with the help of partner Glen Mottram and business partner Angela Powell when her brother Steven Browne arrived.
Browne, of Flat 1 at 1 New Road in Llandelio, immediately began arguing with Ms Slater about Mr Mottram.
Gerald Neave, prosecuting, told Llanelli magistrates how Mr Mottram intervened in a bid to calm the situation, but Browne turned on him.
“Without provocation or warning he pulled his head back and headbutted Mr Mottram,” said Mr Neave.
“While Mr Mottram was holding his face, Browne punched him to the head and then pulled him down to the floor.”
Ms Slater and Ms Powell were able to pull Browne away.
When he was interviewed by police, Browne told officers he had gone to the hall to help Ms Slater set up the stalls.
“When he got there, his sister did not want to speak to him so he started an argument,” said Mr Neave.
“Mr Mottram heard them arguing so he came over.”
Browne told police that Mr Mottram had threatened to “sort him out”.
Browne claimed he had no memory of headbutting Mr Mottram but accepted the statement of the witnesses.
“If they say I did then I must have,” he told police.
Peter Martin, defending, told the court: “He has scant recollection of the headbutt, but he accepts he assaulted Mr Mottram.
“This was a family feud, but he was trying to do his best for his sister.
“He is embarrassed and ashamed by how he behaved.”
Browne admitted assaulting Mr Mottram by beating.
Magistrates adjourned sentencing pending the preparation of probation reports.
