On Friday, members of the Kelly family of Tairgwaith organised a fundraising day as part of the Macmillan Biggest Coffee Morning project raising a staggering £1,800 for cancer support.

Such was the backing of the community and local businesses with donations that the family was forced to hold two separate raffles.

Meanwhile, the cake stall was overflowing as bakers - professional and amateur - donated a huge range of tasty treats.

The day began at 2pm in a Tairgwaith Hall filled with green and white balloons and decorations.

Children and parents poured through the doors and facepainter Samantha Jones worked non-stopping transforming fresh-faced youngsters into butterflies, kitties, lions and tigers.

There was also a special treat for the younger generation with visits from Hello Kitty and Toy Story's Woody.

Shane Williams was on hand to auction one of his shirts, with members of Tairgwaith RFC each donating £10 for the jersey to be framed and hung at the club while Andrew Lacey of Star Multi Fuels donated £100.

Entertainment was provided throughout the day by singer Jeff and in the evening by Terry J and disco queen Nia Hodgkinson.

Diane, Nadine, Naomi, Ilona and Sian would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the day such a special event.

They also intend to hold a Tairgwaith Halloween Party with all profits added to the total.
