AMMANFORD Library is holding a week of special events from this Monday (October 7).

The relaunch will showcase that the library has more to offer than just books.

The week of events will begin with an official opening by Cllr Kevin Madge, leader of Carmarthenshire county council, followed by visits from Superbook, school choirs and authors and the popular Children’s Storytime sessions.

To complete the week, a free Murder Mystery Evening will take place on Friday, October 11 at 6.30pm with the Phoenix Theatre Group.

A large number of new books have been added to the stockpile as well as a fantastic range of audio visual materials which include music CDs and latest DVDs, all which are available for hire.

For the first week of opening all current and new users will be able to loan one audio visual item free of charge.

Library Services Manager Mark Jewell said: “We have set out on an ambitious project aimed at overhauling and vastly improving the way in which we use digital tools to deliver the best possible service to our users.”

The library building has not been left out of the overhaul – the entrance will now feature a display, and the windows have been transformed with colourful information on local legend ‘Twrch Trwyth’.

Cllr Meryl Gravell, Executive Board Member for Heritage and Libraries, said: “Libraries offer a rich resource for people of all ages, and I’m so pleased that we’ve been able to invest in Ammanford Library so that it now provides an even better range of lending materials than ever before.”

Tickets for the Murder Mystery Evening are limited. To avoid disappointment, book your place by contacting Ammanford Library on 01269 598360.
