AN Ammanford town councillor has again raised concerns about the pedestrian crossing outside the town’s Wilkinson store.
Cllr Wendy Evans has safety fears and also wants Carmarthenshire County Council traffic manager John McEvoy to see how traffic flows can be improved.
“I have concerns – not just for pedestrians, but for drivers as well,” Cllr Evans, who said her fears had been renewed by a recent accident at the crossing, told colleagues.
“I’d like to see Mr McEvoy and the police involved in discussions. There has been talk of moving the Carregaman car park entrance – we need to do something before some other person gets badly hurt down there.”
Cllr Evans maintained that – in addition to safety con - cerns – the crossing also had a negative impact on traffic flow.
Cllr Andrew Lewis doubted whether the car park entrance suggestion would make a difference “because cars are moving constantly at that location”.
But Cllr Evans insisted a site meeting was essential.
“We need to get Mr McEvoy down here and have a site visit at 3.15 in the afternoon when the traffic is at its worst,” she said. “There are some days when traffic is at a complete standstill and that is just not fair on drivers.
