A CWMLLYNFELL drink-driver has been told she is lucky to be alive after her car rolled down an embankment, miraculously staying out of a river.
Janette Dady, of 4 New Road, had drunk the equivalent of a bottle of wine at a party in Brynaman RFC before jumping into her Ford Ka to drive home.
The 40-year-old had parked the car on a track leading to the rugby field before entering the club and was reversing out when she went over the edge and down the embankment at around 10.30pm on Saturday, January 27.
Police officers were told that a vehicle had fallen down the bank at 4.10am the following morning - 25 mins after Dady got home and five hours after she left the club.
Vaughan Pritchard Jones, prosecuting, said officers carried out checks on the number plate and went to Dady's home.
"She told officers that she must have had a blackout," Mr Pritchard Jones added.
A breath test revealed that Dady had 60 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 milligrammes.
Gary Jones, defending, asked magistrates to be lenient with Dady because she had made a full admission.
He said: "It would have been the easiest thing in the world to say that she had just left the car where she had parked it and gone home.
"The reason for driving was because she was unable to get a taxi.
"She fully intended to leave the vehicle there."
Dady pleaded guilty to drink-driving and was banned for 12 months.
Magistrates told her: "You are incredibly lucky to be alive."
Dady was also fined £250 and ordered to pay £50 costs.
