Penygroes walkers will soon be stepping out in style following the announcement of a new scheme to boost leisure facilities in the village.

Plans are currently being drawn up to improve Penygroes Park and a meeting has already been held at the village hall to discuss new projects.

Carmarthenshire councillors, representatives from Menter Cwm Gwendraeth, Penygroes Forum, Llandybie Community Council, Penygroes Children's and Youth Community Group, Penygroes youth workers, and representatives from the county parks department and community development section were all present to ensure that any proposals had complete backing.

"It was concluded that the council would investigate the clearing of certain areas within the park for a potential walking circuit," said council community development project manager Amy Hawkins "Draft plans are going to be drawn up for wider consultation to include older young people's play equipment, a walking circuit and community area including seating."

Menter Cwm Gwendraeth, the council-funded local area ambassadors, are working with Penygroes Children's and Youth Community Group to develop these ideas further, to include a public consultation and additional consultation with a number of local groups including the youth club, Village Forum, Primary School and Gardening Club, library and surgery.

The next meeting will be held on February 27 at 9.30am at the Pavilion to discuss progress with the consultation.
