A GLANAMAN man who was stopped by police when they became suspicious about his driving told officers he had downed six pints, a court has heard.
Michael John Davies, of 3 Heol Aman, was spotted driving in Baptist Lane just after midnight on Sunday, February 11, and pulled over.
"Officers asked him if he had been drinking and he told them he had had six pints," said the prosecutor.
"At one stage, they even thought he was going to fall over."
Davies was breathalysed and found to have 90 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 mgs.
Davies's defence solicitor said a driving ban would have huge consequences on his and his partner's life.
"She will have to drive him to his brother's house in Clydach and he will have to cycle to his workplace in Llansamlet from there," he said.
"He knows that he is facing a ban, but he is prepared to get on his bike come rain or snow, day or night, just to keep his job.
"It is his first time inside a court today. When I asked him how he was feeling before coming in here, he said that he was ashamed and nervous."
Ammanford magistrates decided to ban Davies for a total of 20 months, as well as dishing out a £300 fine.
"It was a foolish thing to do and you have lived long enough to regret what happened," they told him.
Davies was given the opportunity to take part in a PRISM course, which could see his ban sliced by a quarter. He was also ordered to pay £40 costs.
