A PIECE of Towy Valley land that had turned into a haven for flytippers has finally been cleared with the help of a national charity.
Work started on the site, which is situated beneath Siloh Hill Bridge near Cilycwm, last week after one local resident kept on at the council to get the mess removed.
Lily Williams, who lives in the village, said that all sorts of rubbish had been dumped there since the summer when she had first contacted Carmarthenshire Council regarding the issue.
She said: "You couldn't see the mess if you were driving past but we spotted it when we were out walking.
"We got in touch with the council a few times and they eventually got Keep Wales Tidy involved."
The charity recruited and funded waterway specialists Cwmbran Landscapes to undertake the difficult task of dragging all of the refuse up the steep bank.
Yvonne Jones of the group said: "They didn't realise the full extent of the mess until they got down there.
"It was a 30ft drop down to get to the rubbish and we hoped that it would all be done in a day but the job was so big that wasn't the case."
Mrs Jones said that the group was grateful to the council for alerting them to the state of the site.
She said: "Carmarthenshire Council's Larry Williams got in touch with us because he knew that we would be able to clear it as part of Keep Wales Tidy's River Project."
