A TEENAGER has appeared before Amman-ford magistrates charged with causing grievous bodily harm during a rugby match between Llandovery Youth and Dunvant.
Scott Paul Watkins, aged 18, of 33 Bayview Terrace, Brynmill, Swansea, denied assaulting Drovers' player John Hywel Rhys Jones, leaving the 16-year-old with serious facial injuries.
Magistrates opted to send the case straight to crown court after taking advice from the Crown Prosecution Service.
They decided that they had insufficient powers to sentence Watkins should he be found guilty.
The case was adjourned for three weeks for committal. Watkins, who was granted unconditional bail, will make his next appearance at Ammanford Court on March 15.
