CRAZY bikers putting lives at risk in the Towy Valley were clocked at more than 100mph on Sunday - on the road that claimed the life of an elderly man just last month.

One motorcyclist was even caught travelling at more than 110mph in a blitz carried out by the Carmarthenshire Road Policing Unit after complaints over the speed of bikers on the A40, between Llandeilo and Llandovery.

Eleven motorcyclists were caught exceeding the 60mph limit - with five breaking the 100mph barrier.

The complaints centre around the speed and dangerous antics of bikers heading for Llandovery on Sundays.

Bikers from throughout Wales converge on the town, where they congregate at the West End Cafe on a weekly basis.

The route has become notorious for the number of accidents taking place and has claimed several lives in recent years.

Just three weeks ago, a 69-year-old Pontyates man was killed when he was in collision with a 4x4 near Manordeilo Service Station.

In 2006, a further two lives were lost on the road, with numerous other accidents reported.

It seems Dyfed-Powys Police have finally decided to act.

A force spokesman said: "In response to complaints from the public of speeding and the dangerous driving of motorcycles on the A40 between Llandovery and Llandeilo, particularly on Sundays, the Carmarthenshire Road Policing Unit carried out an operation on Sunday, February 18, targeting speeding vehicles, both cars and motorcycles. Eleven motorcyclists were reported for exceeding the 60mph limit. Four were travelling in excess of 100mph and one at more than 110mph."
