THE FIVE-STAR hotel that looked set to be built on the old Ammanford Police Station site will not be coming to town after all, it has been revealed.
Instead, a planning application for 12 flats and four offices has been recommended for approval at Carmarthenshire Council's planning committee tomorrow - much to the dismay of the town council.
It was widely believed that it was only a matter of time before another application was submitted for the hotel by applicant D L O'Driscoll. But it now appears that these plans have been scrapped.
Town councillors told the committee: "Members wish to express their disappointment that the site is not being developed as a hotel."
County councillor Hugh Evans has also told planners that the hotel proposal should be revisited.
He said: "I would have been more satisfied if the original application had been modified and approved, because we are trying to bring people into Ammanford and this hotel would have given them a place to stay.
"I also have concerns over the height of the new building because it is a lot bigger than the old police station was."
