A WOMAN whose car plunged down a steep embankment and stopped dangerously close to the River Towy was found three fields downstream.
Dyfed-Powys Police officers received a call at 12.26pm on Monday and attended the scene at Bethlehem Road where the vehicle, which was empty when they arrived, had gone off the road.
A search was undertaken and a 44-year-old woman was found hundreds of metres downstream from the vehicle.
Fire officers and an Air Ambulance were also at the scene. Police officers say it was only trees that stopped the car from entering the river.
A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said: "Diligent and brisk action by the officers at the scene resulted in a 44-year-old local woman being found in the river three fields downstream from where the vehicle had come to rest.
"Prompt action by the officers at the scene succeeded in the recovery of the woman from the swollen and dangerous river waters."
The victim was airlifted from the scene to Glangwili hospital but her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The car was recovered later on Monday.
