TUMBLE residents calling for a speed camera to be installed on Bethania Road have been offered a glimmer of hope.

Llannon community councillors' demands for the potentially life-saving device to be erected have so far fallen on deaf ears.

But Carmarthenshire Council, which had originally refused to grant permission for a camera to be built, has now said it may reconsider.

Carmarthenshire Council's accident research and prevention engineer Mike Jacob said: "All requests for fixed cameras have previously been assessed in line with central government rules for safety cameras.

"Bethania Road has previously not met the required rules.

"As from April 1 safety cameras will be overseen by the Welsh Assembly Government and they are currently issuing their own guidance in respect to the qualifying rules."

He said Bethania Road would be reassessed and the community council will be informed.
