ONLY one of the three parking ticket machines hit by a phantom Llandovery foam sprayer has been repaired - almost a month after the prank took place.

The attack, which saw an unidentified person fill the three machines with expanding foam, took place on Tuesday, April 17.

The damage caused was so severe that two of the devices are still out of order.

Traders in the town, who have battled with Carmarthenshire Council since the introduction of parking charges in 2005, denied all knowledge of the prank.

But they admit that it did bring a smile to their faces.

"Nobody I have spoken to knows who is responsible for the damage," said Hilary Hunt, chair of the Chamber of Commerce.

"But everyone I told certainly had a smirk when they heard the news.

"We've heard that they are still waiting for the part that accepts the money to come from the manufacturer, so that they can fix the other two machines.

"But, to be fair to the council, we haven't seen any of the usual parking wardens around town lately."

One idea being considered by members of the chamber was to pay any fine imposed on the person responsible.

But with the prankster still on the loose, it appears the members' generosity will not be needed.

"We haven't heard anything about the person responsible for it," said Ms Hunt, who runs The Bookshop.

"I know a lot of people in town appreciate what was done. And I don't think I'm the only one in Llandovery who hopes that he or she will get away with it.

The council's parking services manager, Tim Harries, confirmed two of the machines were still out of order.

He said: "One of the machines at Llandovery car park is working.

"We are waiting for spare parts from the manufacturer for the other two machines."
