TWO cool-headed Amman-ford police officers who helped deliver a baby girl in the town on Sunday have modestly played down their efforts, writes Owen Lock.
PCs Keith Harding and Vanessa Price rushed to an address in the centre of town at 12.40pm after hearing a woman had gone into labour.
PC Harding managed to force entry into the home and the duo were forced to partly deliver the baby themselves.
"The head had come out by the time the ambulance had arrived, but they had been on the phone telling me what to do the whole time," said PC Price, who has been a police officer for ten years.
"We just managed to stay calm," she added. "We had to really, because we know things can go wrong.
"Keith was brilliant, I was down where things were getting a bit messy and he was there supporting me and passing me anything I needed.
"Fortunately the ambulance arrived before we had to do it all ourselves," added the 34-year-old mother-of-two.
"It was the first time for either of us to do something like this - and I've definitely got no plans to become a midwife!"
