A STRONG turnout of 140 runners and walkers of all ages from all over South and West Wales braved the weather to take part in the 20th Trap Fun Run on Sunday.
The event was a fund-raiser for the Wales Air Ambulance, the Plastic Surgery Department Morriston Hospital as well as Trap Show. Presidents for the day were Gerwyn and Mair Morgan - a couple who were active members of the local community until they moved to their present home in Newcastle Emlyn.
Two Veteran Swansea Runners took the honours in the Open 5.2 mile race, sponsored by Hanson. Steve Smith crossed the line in a time of 29 mins 36 seconds to scoop the Men's Challenge Cup and £50 prize, whilst Sian Phillips matched last year's winning time of 37mins.10 to win the Ladies Cup and £25.
In the Junior 2.8 mile race sponsored by Brecon Water, 12 year old Davy Lewis of Aberporth beat off older opposition to win the race in a time of 17mins.16seconds, whilst Josie Lewis of Haverfordwest , who will be celebrating her 12th birthday on May 17th, did the same to win the girls race in a time of 18mins.39. These are two young athletes to watch out for in the future.
Those participants who collected sponsor money or are selling Lucky Nos will have a chance of winning £100 Travel House Vouchers. The winner will be announced at Trap Show on the last Saturday of July, when we shall also be presenting the two charities with the money raised.
