AN organiser of a long-established Towy Valley road race was herself forced to show a clean pair of heels on Sunday - when one of her cows went into labour!.
Farmer's wife Beryl Owen, had to don running shoes and hotfoot it back home after hearing the calf was being delivered by Caesarian section.
It meant Mrs Owen - long-serving secretary of the Trap Show Committee - missed the finish of the 20th running of the Trap Fun Run for the first time in the event's history.
She and a small army of volunteer helpers disappeared midway through the event to assist with the delivery at her family farm a mile and a half away.
"It was a case of mustering up the troops and just getting on with it," Mrs Owen told the Guardian afterwards. "When you get a call like you have no choice but to go.
"As the event is run by the agricultural show committee, perhaps it's surprising we haven't had to deal with something like this before!
"Nevertheless, in true rural style, it was a case of 'on with the show'. I'm happy to report both the cow and her calf are both doing well."
Despite torrential rain, a strong turnout of 140n runners and walkers of all ages braved the weather to raise funds for the Wales Air Ambulance, Morriston Hospital's plastic surgery department as well as the Trap Show.
