THEY may have got soaked to the skin, but over 140 hardy runners and walkers made light of the appalling conditions at the 20th Trap Fun Run on Sunday.
Two veteran Swansea runners took the honours in the Open 5.2 mile race, sponsored by Hanson. Steve Smith defied the heavy rain to cross the line in a time of 29 mins 36 secs to scoop the Men's Challenge Cup and £50 prize, while Sian Phillips matched last year's winning time of 37 mins.10 secs to win the Ladies Cup and £25.
In the Junior 2.8 mile race, sponsored by Brecon Water, 12-year-old Davy Lewis, of Aberporth, beat off older opposition to win the race in a time of 17 mins 16 secs.
He was chased all the way home by ten-year-old Christian Lovatt, from Ammanford, who was easily the first Year 5 and Year 6 boy to finish.
Josie Lewis, of Haverfordwest, who will be celebrating her 12th birthday tomorrow, won the girls' race in a time of 18 mins 39 secs.
Those who collected sponsor money or are selling lucky numbers will have a chance of winning £100 Travel House vouchers. The winner will be announced at Trap Show on the last Saturday in July, when money raised will be presented to two charities Presidents for the day were Gerwyn and Mair Morgan - who were active members of the local community until they moved to their present home in Newcastle Emlyn.
