YOUNGSTERS playing in a Bonllwyn park are being put at serious risk because Carmarthenshire Council cannot be bothered to empty the bin.
That is the view of one outraged village resident who says bags of stinking dog mess have been left building up alongside the park's rubbish bin because it is overflowing with trash.
Despite complaining to the council on a number of occasions, the refuse, building up in the play area at Heol Llwyd, has still not been removed.
Villager Idris Jones, of Gwaun Henllan, insisted that the longer the waste is left to rot in the park, the greater the danger it poses to youngsters.
"Because the bin is in the park, the department who clean the streets say it is nothing to do with them," said Mr Jones.
"But that shouldn't matter because the rubbish is piling up and bags of dog mess are just being left alongside.
"Plenty of young children use this park," said Mr Jones.
"It's disgusting that it is just left in this state."
Carmarthenshire Council's Street scene senior manager Mario Cresci hit back at the comments and claimed that the park was regularly maintained.
"The playground is inspected and cleaned weekly" said Mr Cresci, "This includes emptying the bin.
"We have not received any complaints but we are looking at a number of measures to improve the situation."
