COUNTY Council Leader Meryl Gravell has urged the authority to leave "a lasting legacy" for future generations in Carmarthenshire.
Her call came during an address at the Annual General Meeting of full council during which Cllr Gravell revealed what her two particular hopes had been following the elections in 2004.
She said: "One was that we could, as a council, really focus on the things that local people consider to be most important.
"Things such as the cleanliness of their streets and neighbourhoods; simple things such as bus stops, parks and playgrounds, and public conveniences, and increasingly on making sure that people are free from crime and anti-social behaviour.
"My other hope was that we could leave a lasting legacy for future generations in Carmarthenshire - so that you could take a look back in 20 years time at the schools, our town centres, at our sporting facilities and to be able to say that the foundation for many of those things was laid during these four years that we are currently sitting as councillors."
