Talented members of Amman Valley School's brass band have every right to blow their own trumpets after beating off competition from across Wales for a chance to win a performance at the Welsh Proms Cardiff 2007.
Amman Valley are finalists in the In Tune with Wales Schools' Ensemble Competition, backed by local high street bank Lloyds TSB.
The school's brass band submitted short instrumental musical ensembles.
The brass band (pictured right) will now perform at Cardiff's St David's Hall on Saturday to a panel of star musicians.
This is made up of Eos Chater, from chart-topping string quartet Bond, internationally-renowned percussionist Simone Rebello, woodwind musician Lara James, and former BBC Young Musician of the Year, euphonium soloist David Childs.
Amman Valley headteacher Steve Perks said: "The school is very pleased to be one of the four schools placed as finalists in this competition.
"The group is made up of children of a variety of ages and they really have worked extremely hard to get this far."
The brass band entered a piece by famed brass composer Bruce Fraser, entitled Three Renaissance Dances'.
Mr Perks continued: "This achievement reinforces the hard work that's been carried out by the members of the brass band and the music department, particularly our peripatetic music teacher Mike Thorne."
If Amman Valley triumph on Saturday they will go on to perform a 20-minute programme of their choice before the Children's Prom at St David's Hall, Cardiff, on July 14.
