PAUL Pugh will be among the spectators when his devastated team-mates turn out for the man they still regard as their captain in a special charity match at Cwmaman Park on Sunday.
The popular 24-year-old electrician suffered serious head injuries after being the victim of an unprovoked attack outside an Ammanford pub in January.
But Paul is determined he will be watching from the sidelines when Cwmaman take on a Swansea City All Stars XI including former Vetch favourites Alan Curtis and Nigel Stevenson at 2.30pm on Sunday.
It will be his first trip outside hospital since the brutal street attack which shocked the Amman Valley community almost five months ago.
Cwmaman FC secretary Alun Rees is asking people to donate items for a auction following the match. The proceeds will go towards Paul's care costs when he finally leaves hospital for good.
"What happened to Paul was absolutely horrific and not the type of thing you'd expect to happen in this locality," Mr Rees told the Guardian.
"What makes it even harder to accept is that it happened to someone who wouldn't harm a fly. The effect this has had on his family has been devastating.
"Turning out for Paul is the very least we can do. As well as being our club captain, he's a very popular guy as well."
