AN AMMAN Valley bowls club will open its doors to the public next week to show people the benefits that go with playing bowls.
Cwmaman outdoors bowls club will host the open day at its green in Folland Road, Garnant on Saturday, April 23 from 12 noon to 5pm.
Chairman of the club, Mike Williams, said there are a number of benefits to playing bowls for people of all ages.
Says Mike: "It is a low-impact, therapeutic exercise that can improve fitness, coordination and confidence.
"Because of its relaxed pace and comparatively light physical demands, bowls is a popular participant sport, particularly for older people."
However club members said the game is suitable for all ages and abilities making it fun for all the family.
Mike added: "As a club we would encourage you to get started by playing socially, it provides plenty of gentle exercise and a huge dose of competitive spirit."
Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the green from 6pm for free.
Mike said: "We can lend you bowls to practice with and to play alongside other members who can show you what to do, or deliver formal coaching if that is what you want."
The league season begins on Saturday, May 7 with 19 home and away league matches which can be played by all ages and genders with 17 midweek matches home and away for the senior males.
"We look forward to seeing you at the open day," said Mike.
