A BETWS man has admitted assaulting two men in Ammanford near Christmas.

Craig Darrell, of Pentwyn Road, appeared at Llanelli Magistrates' Court on Thursday.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating, both relating to an incident on December 22, 2018.

The court heard how Darrell had thrown multiple kicks and punches to two men already on the floor.

Prosecuting, Sian Thomas said: "The incident was captured fully on CCTV.

"Just after 2am, the defendant can be seen grabbing one complainant in a bear hug before forcing him into the road and throwing him to the ground.

"He then can be seen throwing five punches to the head of the complainant.

"A couple of minutes later, a second complainant was on the floor.

"Darrell is seen to go up to him and kick him multiple times in the face and the head.

"Considerable injuries were caused to the heads of both victims."

Mitigation for Darrell argued that he was of good character, having never previously appeared in court.

His representation said: "The defendant blames his poor state of mind at the time on alcohol, and agrees that he went overboard, having been shown the CCTV.

"This man is of good character. He has never been in court before in his life, and this incident was completely out of character."

Darrell was ordered to carry out a community order and pay more than £570 for the two assaults.

For the first assault he was told to pay £200 in compensation to the victim and fined £85.

He was also ordered to pay £85 costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and will have to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work over the course of the next 12 months.

Darrell was also told to pay £200 in compensation to the second victim.

A collection order was made to ensure the fines, costs and compensation were paid within the next month.
