AMMANFORD police has pulled out of its community office at Ysgol y Bedol in what is believed to be a costcutting measure.
School governor and county council chairman, Kevin Madge, has slammed the decision which saw a team of officers completely strip the room bare and leave without warning just before Christmas.
He said: “We were given a notice of consultation last year but we were never told of a final decision. Not only are we losing a base for our local neighbourhood police officers but we are also losing out on the £2,500 annual funds that the police were paying to use the community room.”
The room at Ysgol y Bedol has been used by the neighbourhood policing team as a drop-in facility and to host surgeries since 2005.
Cllr Madge added: “Having local police in the area has been great for the community with children building relationships with the local PCSOs, it is community policing at its best. I think this move will have a negative impact on the area.
“You can’t put police in every school but here in the Amman Valley it provided vital resources to keep the community facility at the school going.
“I urge the Police and Crime Commissioner, Dafydd Llywelyn, to look into this and I challenge him to get this service reinstated.”
A spokesperson for the commissioner said: “The PCC commits to seeking clarity on the position in Ysgol y Bedol from the chief constable.”
