A MURAL designed by pupils from Saron Primary School has been vandalised.

Vandals have targeted the mural at Ammanford Train Station.

Protective perspex has been ripped off the wall painting, and an attempt has been made to set the mural on fire.

Rhian Thomas, of Ammanford Lions Club, who worked with the youngsters to design the mural, described the damage as “mindless”.

She said: “We go regularly to the station to do litter picks and keep the flower beds tidy; just general care at the station.

“We turned up on Tuesday and there were a lot of bottles and litter everywhere.

“Then we saw a lot of bits of perspex scattered around.

“Someone had tried to set fire to the mural and had ripped off a lot of the perspex over the top of it.”

The mural was originally painted in September 2018 by the eco club at Saron Primary School, and the perspex was placed over the top to protect it from the elements and from graffiti.

Rhian added: “We have reported it to the British Transport Police and got in contact with a man from Transport For Wales who said they would look at replacing the perspex for us which is a relief.

“It is just so mindless. I can’t comprehend it.

“We spend a lot of time going back and forth trying to keep the station tidy, and this is a children’s mural that they have tried to damage. It is upsetting.”
