LLANDEILO foodbank has been given a funding boost of £1500 from Western Power Distribution.

The money will help support the community efforts during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP, Jonathan Edwards met with volunteers at the food bank to congratulate the team for their continuing work supporting the community.

Wester Power launched the 'In This Together - Community Matters Fund' to help those in need during the coronavirus pandemic.

Mr Edwards said: “The last few months have been extremely difficult for everybody, however, it has been heart warming to see local communities across Carmarthenshire pull together.

"I am very grateful to Western Power Distribution for providing this community funding and I am delighted to be able to help in supporting volunteers at the Llandeilo foodbank. I would like to thank them for their work throughout the pandemic and beyond and know that they have been a lifeline for so many people over the last few months.”

Llandielo foobank volunteer, Christoph Fischer, said: “The funding has been very welcome and has enabled us to buy fridges in order to store fresh food. I would like to thank Jonathan Edwards MP for nominating us for the funding and for his continued support. We are very grateful to Western Power Distribution for the donation which will mean we can continue to support vulnerable families and residents now and in the future.”

WPD's resources and external affairs director, Alison Sleightholm, said: “Throughout this crisis we have worked tirelessly to support our local communities and keep the energy flowing to our nearly 7.8 million customers. The crisis is far from over and as we enter the next phase of the UK’s response to the pandemic, we’re delighted that 92 MPs in our regions have nominated deserving causes for up to £1,500 of funding. We’re proud that, so far, we have been able to fund nearly 450 charities and groups within our area. Through the extension of our fund and with the fantastic support of our MPs, we’re able to support even more organisations doing valuable community work.”

Local County Councillor Edwards Thomas, said: “The foodbank was grateful for this additional money organised by our local MP, Jonathan Edwards.

"The money was used immediately to purchase additional fridges from Jones Nantgaredig to store fresh and frozen food for the foodbank. Fresh and frozen goods donations will be gratefully received and we are happy to also support Castell Howell as a supplier.”
