THE FAMILY of an Ammanford mum has helped raise money for two vital charities as a tribute to their father who died earlier this year.
Kenneth Dewsbury died following a battle with kidney renal disease on the day before coronavirus lockdown restrictions began.
His relatives could not give him the send-off they wanted to at the time, so two of them took on the Cheshire 10k at Arley Hall on October 18.
Kenneth’s daughter, Lauren Dewsbury, from Ammanford said: “We couldn’t have the funeral that we wanted him to have because of the Covid restrictions so we decided to do this instead.”
Lauren’s brother Jamie ran the event on October 18 while her son Tomos, who turned 10 years of age on the same day - cycled the route alongside him.
They raised money for Kidney Care UK and mental health charity Mind.
Lauren said: "My dad suffered with mental health problems too, so we wanted to split the money 50-50 between Mind and Kidney Care UK.”
More than £2,000 was raised for the two charities with the final total for Mind charity being £1,101 and £1,133 for Kidney Care UK. The family only initially hoped to raise £500 in total.
The Dewsbury family issued a public thanks for the support and donations ahead of the run.
