A PLANNING application has been submitted for 60 new homes in Brynamman.
Wight, Searles and Dudlyke have lodged an outline planning application with Carmarthenshire Council for a new housing development on land off Cwmgarw Road, which it says will bring much-needed affordable housing to the area.
The site lies within the development limits of Brynamman and has been allocated for residential development.
A design and access statement within the plans states: “The site itself is allocated within the LDP for a scheme of residential development and therefore the principle of the development of the site is considered to be acceptable."
It continues: “The proposed development aims to make the most efficient use of the site, whilst creating a high-quality living environment and also ensuring that the site is sympathetically redeveloped in the context of its location on the edge of the existing built form of Brynamman.”
The homes, it says, will incorporate a total of 60 dwellings, comprising a range of house types, including traditional terraced properties, three-storey town houses, detached and semi-detached dwellings.
Adding: “The proposal will provide significant benefits to the Brynamman area in terms of its contribution to the need for housing and affordable housing the area.
"As well as its benefits through the provision of community facilities and linkages within the site.”
There has been a number of objections to the plans from local residents, particularly those living in Cwmgarw Road.
Those opposed to the development plans highlight concerns about the increase in traffic, disruption from noise and air pollution.
They also raised fears about the increased pressures on the local school and GP surgeries an additional 60 homes would bring to the area.
The plans will go before the council’s planning committee in the coming months.
