Chair of the Josef Herman Art Foundation, Elinor Gilbey explains: “We've created this Trail as a celebration of the life and work of Jewish artist and refugee Josef Herman, who found sanctuary in Ystradgynlais after fleeing Warsaw during WW2.
"The Trail invites you to take a walk in Josef Herman’s footsteps around Ystradgynlais, giving you a glimpse of what Ystradgynlais was like back in the 1940’s and 50’s. The Trail walk weaves around the places where Herman lived and worked and introducing the people and places that inspired his art, not just during the years that he called Ystradgynlais home, but throughout his long, illustrious career."
You can follow the Trail using a specially designed app with GPS function. This means you will receive an alert each time you reach a location point, and related stories, images, artworks and other media will pop up.
The public an collect a free heritage Trail brochure, maps and children’s activity sheets from the Welfare Miners Hall or Ystradgynlais Library.
