Residents of Llandybie and the surrounding area have stepped up their fight to stop plans to build a recycling facility at Cilyrychen quarry, with a petition against the proposal amassing more than 700 signatures.
Local residents and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) have raised grave concerns over the proposal put forward by Dolawen Cyf to recycle building waste at Cilyrychen quarry.
A campaign group set up in response to the plans say the quarry has become a haven for wildlife after 20 years of disuse and have raised concerns over protected species at the site.
The area is home to a nesting pair of peregrine falcons, bats, adders and dormice, according to local residents.
The community group has set up a petition and more than 500 people have joined the Save Cilyrychen Quarry Facebook group.
Residents have also highlighted the potential impact of lorries on the roads in the village.
Adam Price, Member of the Senedd for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr has praised the ongoing efforts of local residents.
After meeting with the steering group in Llandybie, Adam Price said: "It was a pleasure to meet with the steering group for the Save Cilyrychen Quarry campaign in Llandybie. I was very impressed with their grasp of the planning process and how they were managing to remain strategic in their approach.
"Their concerns are valid and well founded, and I would expect them to be given full consideration as the consultation process continues. My office and I will continue to be monitoring the situation."
