Member of the Senedd, Adam Price, has urged his constituents in the Cwrt y Cadno area to attend a local meeting being held to consult with the community regarding afforestation plans for the valley.
Frongoch, a farm in the Cwrt y Cadno area, near Llanwrda, has recently been purchased by the company Foresight, with the intention of using some of the land for tree planting.
This has caused significant concern in the local area that fruitful agricultural land will be consumed by the planting of trees, with significant knock-on effects for local farmers and their families, as well as frustration at the lack of public consultation during the first stages of the process.
A public meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, January 27, at 6pm at Pumsaint Hall. A petition has also been set up by community activists, amassing thousands of signatures within the first week of being online.
Speaking on this issue, Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MS Adam Price said: “As the local Member of the Senedd, I’ve met with the community in Cwrt y Cadno to discuss their concerns, and the strength of feeling in the area is clear to see.
"This is a concerned community who want to ensure that their way of life, and the area of historical and cultural significance they call home, is protected.
"I have raised this issue on the Senedd floor, and in discussions with the Welsh Government, and would fully encourage residents to attend the public meeting and make their voice heard”
