PLANS for more tourist accommodation at a golf club in the Swansea Valley have been submitted to Powys County Council, in the hope it could help it grow as a wedding destination.
Celtic Minor golf club at Lower Cwmtwrch near Ystradgynlais have applied to build two tourist pods and an access path in the course grounds.
The golf club was known as the Palleg and Swansea Valley Golf course before being re-branded in 2015.
Their agents Jason Evans of Evans Banks planning limited explained the proposal in a planning statement.
Mr Evans said: “The club has seen significant investment in recent years by the applicant, including the construction of a new club house, improvements to greens, as well as securing permission for six accommodation units to the north of the new club house.
“As a result of this investment and improvement, the club is not only used by its growing number of members for playing golf and holding social functions, but it has also now become a popular wedding venue.
“This application therefore seeks to build on these projects and uses by now providing a further facility that will widen and strengthen its economic base.”
Mr Evans said that the area earmarked for the units does include a number of trees including Ash, and is situated between several of the golf course greens.
Some of the trees would need to be felled to allow the site to be developed.
Mr Evans said that the proposal is important to “transforming and securing Celtic Minor Golf Club as a viable, modern and fit-for purpose leisure and tourism destination.”
In 2020 planning approval was given to to demolish a driving range facility, which was used to allow golfers to practice their swing, and replace it with a new buildings that can accommodate six visitor units.
It is expected that the application will be decided by March 1.
