A 41-year-old Ammanford dad bled to death after being stabbed in the arm at his Pantyffynnon Road home, a court has heard.

Magistrates sitting at Llanelli were told how emergency services had been unable to save Bernard Jason Evans due to severe blood loss.

Mr Evans, aged 41, died during the early hours of Tuesday, January 22, following an incident in which his brachial artery was severed.

Maxine Violet Williams, the daughter of Mr Evans' partner, appeared before magistrates on Friday accused of murder.

Wearing a dark blue jacket over a green T-shirt, 21-year-old Williams, of Gwscwm Road in Pembrey, wept constantly during the ten-minute hearing.

Pale, drawn and in a state of shock, Williams fought back tears as she confirmed her name, address and date of birth. No bail application was submitted by defence solicitor David Elvy.

Crown prosecutor Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court that Williams had stabbed her mum's lover in the arm and would stand trial for murder. He said that, if convicted, Williams would face a life sentence behind bars.

Chairman of the magistrates, Ann Garrard, told Williams that she and her colleagues had considered everything said by both the prosecution and the defence.

"This matter will now be heard in Swansea crown court on February 5," Ms Garrard said.

Clearly distressed behind the glass screen of the dock, Williams thanked the magistrates and called out "I love you dad," to her father, who sat in the public gallery with his partner and his daughter's boyfriend.

She was led away by a female security guard.
