Police officers in Ammanford have launched an investigation into the vandalism which has closed the public toilets in the town park.
The town council announced that the toilets will be closed until further notice last week.
A spokesperson from Dyfed-Powys Police said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating criminal damage that was caused to public toilets in Ammanford Park on Thursday, April 21, at approximately 12:30am.
“Several roof tiles were dislodged from the toilet building, before some of them were smashed on the floor nearby.”
The town council posted on Facebook: “It is with great regret that Ammanford Town Council must notify that the public toilets in Ammanford park will be closed until further notice due to mindless vandalism.
“Anybody with any information, please contact Dyfed-Powys Police."
Several other incidents of vandalism have been reported in the Ammanford area, including recent damage to the memorial benches and a street lamp.
"This is absolutely awful news, I really don't understand what goes through the minds of these vandals to make them want to do this," commented Karin Ryan on the town council's Facebook post.
Catrin Woolfe also replied to the town council's social media post, commenting: "Surely investment in CCTV for public areas like this should be priority, not only to monitor situations like this but for the safety of the general public.
"There shouldn’t be a need for it, but clearly there is. We can’t keep throwing money at improvements to the town to then just leave it unmonitored."
Elin Thomas Wiltshire also commented: "This is unfortunately what happens to anything new.
"The remembrance garden, I noticed that one of the new lanterns had 'fallen' over earlier in the week and no doubt if the playing park is upgraded, it will just be a matter of time.
"Absolutely no respect for the belongings of others these days."
