As jubilee beacons go, Llandovery’s took some beating.
People from miles around watched the flames last night (Thursday, June 2) after members of Llandovery YFC were given the challenging task of constructing and lighting the beacon on the Penlantelych trig point, courtesy of Jean Hughes.
This meant that the YFC had to mastermind its construction on a site that’s an impressive 764 feet (233m) above sea level.
The beacon was lit by town mayoress Mrs Margaret Davies, and YFC members and local residents joined her for the one-in-a-lifetime celebration.
