An improved children’s playground and newly developed nature trails have opened at a ‘Party in the Park’ celebration at Tycroes Park.
The celebration took place on Friday, July 22, as residents flocked to the event organised by Llanedi Community Council.
The park has undergone £122,400 of work, made possible by Carmarthenshire County Council’s grant of £47,801 and an additional £15,000 of funding from Mynydd y Betws Windfarm Community Benefit Fund.
Environmental benefits can be seen at the park, including raised beds, footpaths, woodland improvements, wildlife planting and 40 bird boxes added.
The environmental work is at the value of £42,000, with a further £49,000 worth of other items included thanks to a grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
Chair Iain Barrett from Llanedi Community Council said: “We have specifically focused on outdoor spaces and community assets over the last few years.
“The development of the parks, woodlands and nature areas has required significant investment which the council has demonstrated commitment to; however, community collaboration has been critical.”

The nature trails opened on Friday are located in the park’s surrounding woodlands, as CR Civil Engineering donated £15,000 to the cause in labour, materials and machinery.
The company also provided work in the park, including 385m of footpath, the installation of a 30m timber boardwalk and drainage improvements.
All the completed work was celebrated at the opening on Friday, which included entertainment from Crazy Clayton and Actif Sports and Leisure.
There was also arts and crafts on offer by Menter Dinefwr, as well as donkey rides and an inflatable tractor.
Residents also enjoyed the free ice cream and goody bags, along with the BBQ.
Iain Barrett continued: “It was wonderful to see several hundred residents and families join us to celebrate at our new Tycroes Play Park with an event filled with free activities and refreshments.
“We thank all of our friends, volunteers, contractors, businesses and residents for their continued support to our community as we continue with plans to create opportunity, remove barriers and increase social well-being.”
Steffan Thomas, regional director, CR Civil Engineering said: “It was a privilege to work alongside such a close and hardworking community. Credit to the volunteers within Tycroes for their hard work and for what they have achieved.”
