Hundreds enjoyed the return of the Evofit Super6 over the weekend, which took place for the first time since 2019.

A total of 28 teams, as well as plenty of spectators, braved the drizzly weather as they attended the event, held at Penybanc RFC between 12pm and 5.30pm on the afternoon of Saturday, July 30.

The tournament had not been played since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, as many of the players and spectators had missed the event.

“It was great to have the Super6 back in Ammanford,” said Mathew Williams, managing director of Evofit.

“Everybody had a great day, the weather didn’t affect anybody’s spirits and all the teams turned up and entertained the crowd.”

The 2022 Evofit Super6 was the first time that a women’s tournament had been played alongside the men, which was won by the brilliantly named No Woman, No Try.

The usual 20 men’s teams turned out in their numbers, as well as this year’s eight women’s teams joining them. Teams travelled from as far as Newport and St Davids to take part.

Off the field, there was plenty to entertain the crowd away from the rugby, with people enjoying a live DJ, full bar, hog roast, coffee, cakes and desserts.

Meanwhile, Grannog All Stars won the men’s plate at the tournament, as Bitches Yr Cymuned won the men’s shield.

Money raised from the event will be benefitting Wales Air Ambulance and the Jac Lewis Foundation.

Mathew added: “This event really was all about getting it restarted after the pandemic, just getting it back on the calendar and telling people it was back.

“We didn’t know how many would turn up, but the turnout was terrific and without the rain, I’m sure there would’ve been many more.

“Now, it’s all about building this event for the future, making it bigger and better.”
