A 65-year-old woman has been disqualified from driving for more than two years after she was caught driving in Powys at nearly three times the drink drive limit.

Gaynor Davies was just three micrograms shy of being three times the limit when she was breathalysed by police who pulled her over in the south of the county on July 9.

Davies, driving a Mazda MX-5 Roadster on Gurnos Road, Ystradgynlais, provided a reading of 102 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – the legal limit for alcohol in your system when driving is 35 micrograms.

Davies, of Maespica Road, Lower Cwmtwrch, pleaded guilty to drink driving when she appeared at Merthyr Tydfil Magistrates' Court on July 25.

Magistrates ordered her to undertake 80 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12-month community order and she must pay a £114 surcharge as well as £85 costs.

They disqualified her from driving for 25 months; a period she can reduce by 25 weeks if she successfully completes a drink drive rehabilitation course.
