A weekend-long celebration is set to take place near Llandeilo later this month, bringing together heritage skills and traditional crafts.

The weekend event, ‘Building Heritage: Celebrating Skill,’ will take place from Saturday, September 24 to Sunday, September 25.

Across the two days, expert speakers will attend and demonstrations will take place in the historic setting of Newton House.

From 10am to 4.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday, ticket holders to the event will have access to a varied programme of talks on conservation, design and restoration.

Day one will focus on heritage building skills, giving an insight into the repair and conservation of historic buildings and traditional homes.

Nell Hellier, senior built heritage officer at Carmarthenshire County Council, will chair the day. Topics include sustainable approaches to heritage properties; leadwork, lime and plaster and traditional thatching.

The following day will focus on decoration and design, delving into the world of historic and contemporary wallpaper, decorative plasterwork; vernacular design and traditional paint finishes.

Rebecca Spooner, National Trust Cymru’s cultural heritage curator for South Wales, will chair the day of talks, exploring subjects such as local vernacular buildings.
